“Southpaws Delight” - William Powell & Son 12 Bore Sidelock Ejector – 30” Original Whitworth Nitro Steel Barrels and Highly Figured European Walnut St
Description: Handsome and great handling William Powell & Son sidelock ejector in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition and is No. 2 of a pair. 7-pin sidelock with sharp engraving and highly figured European walnut stock and forearm. The stock is cast-on for the lefthanded shooter but could easily be bent to cast-off. Powell number 12722 was made in 1913 and has its original Whitworth nitro steel barrels. Double triggers, auto safety, automatic selective ejectors. Easy to carry for a day afield at 6lb 7oz. The original 30” nitro steel barrels are chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells and proofed for 1-1/8oz loads. Rumors to the contrary notwithstanding, low pressure 2-1/2” cartridges are available in the US from ARMUSA, Game Bore, and RST Shells. The bores are shiny and bright and the bluing is in very good condition. They are topped by a raised solid tapered gamestyle rib which is inscribed “William Powell & Son 35 Carr’s Lane Birmingham” and “Sir Joseph Whitworth’s Fluid Pressed Steel”. The right barrel is bored 0.736 with a constriction of 0.010 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.023. The left barrel is also bored 0.736 and has a constriction of 0.014 for Light Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.021. The replacement stock is made of highly figured European walnut with a hand rubbed oil finish. Checkering is crisp. Stock dimensions are 15” to a checkered butt by 1-3/8” by 2”. Cast-On for the lefthanded shooter. This Powell is a beautiful and great handling sidelock from one of the top British gunmakers. Stocked in a gorgeous piece of European walnut. For lefties this is a great chance to purchase a Cast-On first rate sidelock. Righthanders – this gun can easily and inexpensively be bent to Cast-Off if desired. *** Please note that the photographs are part of the description.
