Early 1900s DOUBLE BARREL BOXLOCK Fowling Piece
Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R British Factory Engraved James Carr & Sons Boxlock Double Barrel Side by Side Hammerless Shotgun, made circa the mid to early 1900s in Birmingham, England. This very nice Boxlock Ejector Side-by-Side Shotgun in 12 gauge, crafted by one of the respected British gunmaker in Birmingham, England. The early serial number “1546” suggests production in the early 20th century, likely around the early 1900s, as James Carr & Sons operated during this period, producing quality sporting arms for the British and international markets. Known for their robust boxlock designs, James Carr shotguns were favored by sportsmen for upland game and field shooting, offering reliability and balance. This is a 12-gauge gun with 2-1/2 inch chambers with ejectors that was known for its lighter weight and versatility, while the Cylinder and Improved Modified chokes provide flexibility for various game. The historical significance of this shotgun lies in its representation of Birmingham’s gunmaking tradition, delivering well-crafted firearms at accessible prices compared to other London makers.
