Here is a handsome and unusual back-action sidelock non-ejector by John Blanch & Son, built circa 1896. The gun sports a modern set of 28" barrelswith 2 3/4" chambers and excellent bores, choked .014/.022 (approximately improved cylinder/modified). The rib is engraved: J. BLANCH & SON. 29 GRACECHURCH STREET. LONDON. The gun locks up tight, and functions properly with snap caps. There are gold-inlaid side-mounted rotary cocking indicators. The trigger-guard (see photo # 14) appears to have been dented, and re-straightened. The engraving is the distinctive flowing vine style found on back-action Blanch guns of the late 1800s. The fore-end features a unique release mechanism (see photo # 11). The stock measures 1 5/8" x 2 5/8" x 13 3/4" with cast off (for a right hand shot). The weight is 6 lbs 5 oz. Comes in a leather case with some cleaning accessories. A fine upland gun from a very good maker.
