Description:
Here is an extraordinary, best grade 12 bore sidelock ejector by Marcel Donckier of Liège, Belgium, built circa 1926. The chopper-lump barrels are made of Sir Joseph Whitworth's compressed steel, and retain 99% original blue. They are 28.3" (72cm) with a concave matted rib. The chambers are 2 3/4" (70mm) and perfect bores, choked .019/.035 (modified/full.) The gun has side-clips and locks up tight as new, and the ejectors are strong and in time. The front trigger is articulated. There are "disk-set strikers" (i.e. bushed firing pins.) The receiver, top-lever, trigger-guard and tang feature bold floral engraving of the very highest quality, with 99% original case colors. The fore-end has an Anson release. The beautifully figured European walnut has ultra-fine checkering. The stock measures 1 1/2" DAC x 2 3/8" DAC x 15" LOP over a solid, leather-faced pad. (13 5/8" to the end of the wood.) The underside of the butt has an initial plate with the previous owner's initials. This beautiful gun weighs 7 lbs 2 oz, and comes in its maker's oak and leather case with a key.
Marcel Donckier was a superb, internationally respected craftsman whose work compares to that of the finest English gunmakers. The quality and condition of this rare piece could scarcely be improved upon.
