Description:
W. A. Beckwith, London.  Outstanding 18-bore double-barreled flintlock sporting gun, #1432, ca. 1820. Weight: 6 Lb. 2 oz.  Superb 30” re-browned Damascus barrels with brilliant bores. Stepped-in breeches with platinum touchhole liners. Peerless quality locks with gold-lined pans, roller frizzens, open-throat cocks, and sliding safeties (mainsprings are replacements). Nicely game-scene engraved iron mounts. Figured walnut half-stock with silver flash-guard inlays just forward of the pans. Original ramrod numbered to the gun. Overall, absolutely peerless quality throughout with traces of original finish showing little evidence of use and very hard to find today in this fine condition.

The patterning target was shot with 2 3/4 drams "Olde Eynsford" 3F powder and 1 1/8 oz. #8 shot, with the resulting placement of 42% of the shot from each barrel within a 30" circle at 33 yards .... refer to target ... (right barrel 186 pellets in red, left barrel 190 pellets marked in blue). Overall a superb gun in wonderful condition and patterns better than my choke-bored Parker! A better performing flintlock gun would be hard to find
.

William A Beckwith apprenticed under Wattel Clark in 1785. He was admitted to the freedom of the Gunmakers Company in 1801. He started his own business at 58 Skinner Street, Snowhill; and worked there until 1861.
