William Evans Mannlicher-Schoenauer .256 Mannlicher (6.5x54) 27 1/2" Barrel
Description: Here is a handsome William Evans sporter in .256 Mannlicher, built on a 1903 Mannlicher-Schoenauer action circa 1920s. The barrel is 27 ½” with a very good bore. There is a ramped front sight with a flip-up ivory moon bead. The rear express sight has leaves marked 100, 200 and 300 yards. The barrel is engraved: WILLIAM EVANS. 63 PALL MALL. ST. JAMES’S. LONDON. There is a side-mounted base for a scope mount of Griffin & Howe type. (Maker unknown.) There is a single trigger. The action is extremely smooth, as with all vintage Mannlicher-actioned rifles. The fore-end has an ebony tip. The lightly figured English walnut stock has a variety of scratches from having been carried in the field. There is a well-repaired crack at the wrist. It is barely detectable (see photo # 15.) The length of pull is 14 ¾” over a smooth steel butt-plate. The weight is 7 lbs 9 oz. A wonderful, classic British sporter.
